Top 5 Real Sodas

We aren’t talking about your run-of-the-mill nationally distributed beverages such as coke, and pepsi products.

We’re talking about high quality sodas, made with natural ingredients, and micro brewed in small batches. These are real sodas, the way all soda would be made if the national brands weren’t trying to pass off the cheapest possible product without any regard to quality or ingredients.

Using real ingredients comes at a cost to your wallet, as you’ll pay more than a national brand 2-liter, for a single 12oz bottle, but the difference is absolutely worth it.

Once you try one of the sodas below, you’ll never want another coke or pepsi again.

Bundaberg Ginger Beer

It’s always cloudy in a good bottle of Bundaberg Ginger Beer. Holding this bottle up to the light you’ll see that it’s full of real ginger pieces. Made in Australia, it’s sweetened with cane sugar, and even includes yeast as an ingredient. We also love the cool pull tab style cap.

Taste: Goes down very smooth. Full of flavor, with a small bite. Clean, & Crisp. Blows away national ginger ales/beers such as Canada Dry, & Vernors.

Price: $2.25 each (12.7oz bottle)

Virgil’s Root Beer

Virgil’s was one of the first true premium root beers on the market. Just one look at the ingredient list and you can instantly tell this is not your average root beer. Ingredients include anise, licorice, wintergreen, and molasses.

Taste: You can definitely taste most of the ingredients listed on the label, which makes for a unique experience the first time you give this a try. It’s definitely not an A&W. This soda really grows on you – the more you drink, the more you want.

Price: $2.45 each (12oz bottle)

Sprecher Cream Soda

Brewed in a gas-fired kettle in Glendale, WI., this cream soda is honey colored, not artifically red. Wisconsin honey, and pure vanilla are blended together to create an outstanding cream soda.

Taste: Very smooth and easy to drink. The carbonation is a lot lower than you would expect if you are used to nationally available cream sodas. And that’s okay with us, because when high quality ingredients are used, you don’t need a high level of carbonation. You want to be able to taste what you drink. Carbonation is something used in excess by Coke & Pepsi to help mask the lack of flavor.

Price: $1.00 each (16oz bottle)

Lost Trail Root Beer

You get a glass bottle, complete with a cowboy and horse on the label. It’s also micro brewed in a barn in Kansas. It doesn’t get much more manly than that!

Taste: Lost Trail is made with pure cane sugar (not the cheaper HFCS most others use), so you get a nice clean, crisp taste with flavors that stand out more than your average root beer.

This is the kind of soda that’s good just about anytime, and goes great with wings.

Price: $7.95/4 pack (12oz bottles)
